What I've come to realize about Afghanistan, and this is something that is often dismissed in the West, that behind most of us who succeed is a father who recognizes the value in his daughter and who sees that her success is his success.
私はアフガニスタンについて気づいたことがあります。それはもとい、西側諸国にもしばしば見過ごされていることだと思うですが、成功する女性たちの後ろ盾には、女性の成功こそが彼等の成功であるということを見出し、女性の価値に気づいている父の存在があるということです。


It's not to say that our mothers aren't key in our success. 母親という存在を軽視しているわけではありません。

In fact, they're often the initial and convincing negotiators of a bright future for their daughters, but in the context of a society like in Afghanistan, we must have the support of men.
事実、母親たちは最初の理解者であり、娘たちにとって明るい未来への交渉人です。しかしながら、アフガニスタンのような社会的文脈においては、私たちは彼等父親の支援が必要です。

Under the Taliban, girls who went to school numbered in the hundreds -- remember, it was illegal. But today, more than three million girls are in school in Afghanistan.
タリバン政権下において忘れてはならないことは、学校に通う多くの女性達は、違法なのです。しかし今日、300万人もの女の子がアフガニスタンの学校に通っています。

Afghanistan looks so different from here in America.
アフガニスタンはここ、アメリカとは全く違います。

I find that Americans see the fragility in changes.
私は、アメリカの人々が変化の中において、その脆さに対峠していることを見つけました。

I fear that these changes will not last much beyond the U.S. troops' withdrawal.
私は、アメリカ軍の撤退以降はこういった変化がそれほど続かないかもしれないことを恐れています。
