高二の娘との会話１７・・・・私の願望

娘　「・・・・、そのポロシャツがネ、凄く目立つ色なの。目に痛いショッキングピンクなの。」
母　「え、many　退職金？」
娘　「・・・・。お母さん。自分の願望で人の話を聞かないでくれる？どう聞いたら、『目に痛いショッキングピンク』　が　『many 退職金』に聞こえるの？」

本当に、そう聞こえたんだもん・・・・。

「私の希望」という題名を「私の願望」に変えました。(10/15)

I mishear things like this all the time! I can't remember many examples right now. Or, I may hear things correctly, but I still misunderstand them.
Does this make me おちょっこちょい？

One day we were driving in the car, and as we passed someone's house my husband saw some very neatly stacked firewood (たきぎが奇麗に積み重ねてあったことを見た). Admiring a job well done, he said to me, "Look at that cooly stacked firewood!"

(We don't often use "cooly" in this way... that's why my husband is a little bit at fault here. We say "cool!" (すごい！）but not so much "cooly".)

Anyway, when he said this, the first image in my head was coolies stacking wood. coolie というと、酷いイメージが思い起こされて、その言葉自体はちょっと無礼な感じがしますけれど、I heard "cooly" and thought "coolie". 　"Look at that coolie-stacked wood" (あの coolie が重ねたたきぎを見て...) So, for just a split second I had a picture in my mind of men wearing coolie hats neatly stacking wood (近代あり得ないことなのに).
