This suggestion is as below.

It means, the purpose is….
Then, self-help means…..

まだね、ジョークのオチがすっきりしなかったんで、
英会話の先生にメールで質問してた。
さっき、返事がきたよ。

As for the joke, I think it means that the customer is supposed to find the section alone, and help themselves (self-help). It has a double meaning, very clever! Maybe we can talk about this during class as well with everyone.

つまり、自分のことは自分でなんとかしろ、ってことやから、人に聞いて探すんじゃ、意味がないってことか・・・な？
そう解釈したよ。
