At midnight last night, I was almost ready to fall asleep when I felt the house shake. I realized immediately that it was an earthquake. The vibration was not very big, but it continued for a while. Feeling the shake of an earthquake is common for me as a Japanese. However, I didn’t predict that it would happen in LA as soon as I came here. In Japan, we usually turn on the TV immediately after we feel the shake to get information, but I didn’t have a TV in that room. I thought about what had happened. I could say that was definitely the vibration of an earthquake if this were Japan. But, is it the same in LA? I searched on a website and finally found an article about the earthquake. It said that the earthquake was magnitude 3.7 and 12 miles from downtown. That was not very big, but quite close to here.

I talked with another Japanese guy for the first time today. Both of us feel that we are not good at speaking English, so we sometimes try to speak English with each other. We could share our feelings and thought about the class, our skills in English, and life in LA and SCI-Arc.

I have another Japanese friend who is studying at SCI-Arc. She is an M.Arch 2 second year student. She is now in the middle of her thesis which she will finish this September. I met her and helped her with her thesis today. Helping senior students is good experience for new students, because we can learn how to create the models, how to make the 3D computer graphics, and how to organize the thesis.
