besides ------------------------------
[前置詞]
1. …のほかに(も).

Libraries offer various other services besides lending books. 図書館は本を貸し出すほかにいろいろな便宜を提供してくれる.

2. [否定・疑問文で] …を除いて.
No one knows it besides me. それは私のほかはだれも知らない.

Who besides her would say that? 彼女以外にだれがそんなことを言うだろうか.


[副詞]
1. そのうえ，なお(また).
He has a wife, and five children besides. 彼は奥さんのほかに 5 人の子供をかかえている.

(OALD) Usage note: beside / besides ------------------------------
The preposition beside usually means ‘next to something/somebody’ or ‘at the side of something/somebody’:
Sit here beside me.

Besides means ‘in addition to something’:
What other sports do you play besides hockey?
-Do not use beside with this meaning.

The adverb besides is not usually used on its own with the same meaning as the preposition.
It is mainly used to give another reason or argument for something:
I don’t think I’ll come on Saturday. I have a lot of work to do. Besides, I don’t really like parties.
She likes football. Besides, she likes tennis and basketball.

OALDのusageでは副詞のbesidesでは前置詞と同じ意味では普通使わないって書いてありますよね・・・

前置詞のbesiedsは「～の他に」で、副詞のbesidesは「加えて」ってことでいいのかな？
まぁ「加えて」も「その他に」でも似たようなものかな～と思ったり＾＾；（大雑把すぎですか？）
