＜Examples by gyutaku＞
To have a privilege required to change configuration of the equipment, you have to input the proper code for authorization before that.
⇒装置の設定を変更するために必要な特権を得るためには、その前に認証のための正しいコードを入力しなければならない。

例文にでてきた attorney は弁護士(米)という意味でした。
LDOCE の Word choice では以下のように解説されています。

lawyer, attorney, solicitor, barrister, counsel
Lawyer is a general word for someone who has professional training in legal work or who is an expert in the law.
In American English, the word attorney is often used instead, especially in legal or official language and especially to refer to a lawyer who represents people in court.
In British English, there is a difference between a solicitor , who gives legal advice and prepares legal documents, and a barrister , who represents people in court.
In both American and British English, someone's counsel is the lawyer or group of lawyers who represent them in court.

lawyer は一般的な用語で法律の専門家＝弁護士。
米国では lawyer の代わりに attorney が使われる場合があり、特に法廷代理人(となる弁護士)のこと。
で、英国ではアドバイスや書類の作成を行う solicitor と、法廷にでて代理を行う barrister は別の名前で区別される。
米国でも英国でも、counsel といえば法定代理人となる弁護士や弁護士グループをさす。

それぞれの定義は覚えられなくても、どの単語を見たときも lawyer の一種だな、と思えるようにしておかないといけませんね。
