<Word of the day (from http://www.learnersdictionary.com/ )>
glimps [noun]
a brief or quick view or look
・We caught/got/had a glimpse of him through the window as his car sped past.
・my first glimpse of [=my first look at] the city
-often used figuratively
・The book offers a glimpse into the future of the computer industry.

⇒短時間見えたもの、あるいは見る行為

<Examples by gyutaku>
He got a glimpse of the grim creature grimly and left there.
⇒彼はその汚らしい生き物を冷酷に一瞥してその場を去った。

glance も似ている意味の単語ですね。
LDOCE では二つの言葉の違いを以下のように解説しています。

glance, glimpse
glance (verb) means 'to look quickly and deliberately' and a glance is the act of quickly looking at someone or something
・I glanced at my watch.
・She gave me an amused glance.
glimpse (verb) means 'to see something or someone by chance for a very short time' and a glimpse is a sight that you see by chance for a very short time
・I glimpsed someone behind the curtain.
・We got a glimpse of her face as she hurried past.

なるほど。こちらの解説によると、
意識的にちらっとみること(verb)、あるいは見る行為(noun)が glance で、
意図せず偶然に短時間見ること(verb)、あるいは見た物(noun)が glimpse なんですね

とはいえ、前述の通り、Webster の定義では glimpse には a brief look (短時間見ること) も含まれていますので、まあ、あえて使い分けるならという感じなのかもしれません。

a glimpse of ~といえば caught が定番だと思っていたのですが、got や had も使えるんですね。
