Excuse me, may I sit here?
Sure.
Thanks. I like your jacket.
Oh, thanks.
It looks well-made. Where did you get it? In Japan?
Ah, where did I get this? I think I got it at a thrift shop in a place called Ueno.
Oh, this is my station. Nice talking to you.
Nice talking to you, too.

Excuse me, may I sit here?

Sure. Of course. Go ahead.

Where did you get it? In Japan?

I think I got it at a thrift shop in a place called Ueno.
in Ueno. でもいいが、 in a place called Ueno の方が伝わりやすい。

Ten Second Challenge

How many times have you worn a kimono?
Just a few times. I wore a kimono for Coming-Of-Age Day, when I turned twenty. I'd like to wear kimono again, when the time is right.

All right, Jenny. I'd like you to answer in ten seconds about your experience wearing kimonos. Now, how many times have you worn a kimono? Here is Jenny's original answer.

A few times. I wore a kimono once at my wedding. And I worn it in Kyoto, too.

You're used to a 10 second challenge.

DAY-4

Excuse me, may I sit here?
Sure.
Thanks. I like your jacket.
Oh, thanks.
It looks well-made. Where did you get it? In Japan?
Ah, where did I get this? I think I got it at a thrift shop.

Actually it's a vintage jacket from the 1960's.
By the way, can I ask you about komonos?
Sure. Go ahead.

I'll be in Japan for the New Year holiday. Do people wear kimonos for New Year Holiday?
Well, some people do. Actually a few of my relatives wear a kimono every New Years.

How many times have you worn a kimono?
Just once or twice in my life. I'd like to wear a kimono again, when the time is right.
I've never worn one for New Years, though.
Really? Well, I'll go to the shrine, so I don't have to wear a kimono to visit the shrine, right?
You don't have to. But it might be nice.
Are there dress codes at most shrines in Japan?
I don't think so. Just visit the shrine, you don't have to worry about it.
But don't dress too casually.

Oh, this is my station. Thanks a lot.
Nice talking to you. I hope you'll enjoy the New Year.

DAY-5

I like your jacket.
Well, thanks.
It looks well-made. Where did you get it? In Japan?

I think I got it in a place called Fukuoka. It's my hometown.
You have good taste.
Oh, thanks. That's nice of you to say.
Where do you usually go shopping for clothes?

Mostly I shop on lines these days, and I like to shop in a place called Ginza.
By the way, can I ask you about kimonos?
Sure. Go ahead.
I'll be in Japan for the New Year holiday. Do people wear kimonos for the New Year Holiday?

Well, some people do. And you might enjoy wearing a kimono.
How about you? How many times have you worn a kimono?
Just a few times. I wore a kimono for Coming-Of-Age Day, when I turned twenty.
I'd like to wear a kimono again, when the time is right.

I wonder how a Japanese kimono really feels when you wear it. Is it heavy?

It's a little heavy, and it's a little difficult to walk.
Really? Well, I'll go to a shrine. So I don't have to wear a kimono to visit a shrine, right?

You don't have to, but it might be nice.
Are there dress codes at most shrines in Japan?

I don't think so. Just visit the shrine, you don't have to worry about it. But don't dress too casually.

Nice talking to you. I hope you'll enjoy the New Year.

Ah, where did I get this? I think I got it at a thrift shop.
Actually it's a vintage jacket from the 1960's.

→Ah, where did I get this? I think I got it at a thrift shop, actually.
It's a vintage jacket from the 1970's.

I'll be in Japan for the New Year holiday. Do people wear kimonos for New Year Holiday?
→I'll be in Japan for the New Year's holiday. Do people wear kimonos for the New Year's Holiday?

Well, I'll go to the shrine, so I don't have to wear a kimono to visit the shrine, right?
→Well, I'll go to a shrine, so I don't have to wear a kimono to visit a shrine, right?

Just visit the shrine, you don't have to worry about it.
→Just visit to a shrine, you don't have to worry about it.

Take care! Take it easy! ^^

Mostly I shop on lines these days,
→Mostly I shop online these days,

I'll be in Japan for the New Year holiday. Do people wear kimonos for the New Year Holiday?
→I'll be in Japan for the New Year's holiday. Do people wear kimonos for the New Year's Holiday?

Just visit the shrine,
→ Just visit a shrine,

I hope you'll enjoy the New Year.
→I hope you'll enjoy the New Years in Japan.

調べましたら、New Year's は New Year's Day のことで、Dayが省略されているということがわかりました。
