会話文です。文のつながりが必要だと思うので全文載せますが、わからないのは下記の
１行です
Yeah, it would have been ironic to run out of gas too after all that.
言いたいことはわかるのですが、この文をどう日本語に訳せばいいでしょうか？

a: Why are you late?
b: Because of heavy traffic.
a: Oh, really?
b: Yes, on the way here, the road was under constrution.
a: I see.
b: So, I had to take a detour.
a: a huh.....
b: But then I got lost.
a: Oh dear....!
b: I wanted to check my map, but I forgot to bring it.
a: mmm hmmm....
b: So I stopped at a gas station to ask (for) directions.
a: Good idea.
b: While I was there, I deided to get (some) gas.
a: a huh (Yeah, it would have been ironic to run out of gas to after all that.)
b: And when I finally arrived, it was hard to find (a) parking (place)
a: Well, that's quite a story. Why don't you relax and I'll make us some coffee.
b: Sound great ! Thanks. Oh, by the way, can I use your restroom?

after all that　は渋滞、工事中、遠回り、道に迷うなどの不運なことを言っているらしいのですが
「それは悪いことが続いてガソリンまでなくなったとしたら、皮肉なことだよね」
と訳してみたのですが、日本語おかしくないですか？（これだからいつも家族から日本語勉強しろと言われてしまう）
どなたか教えてください
