ついてないこともあったにせよ、なるほど、彼は全てそれなりに価値あるものへと変えて行きました。

The next man he met was a countryman carrying a fine white goose.

彼が次に出会ったのは、見事な白いガチョウを連れた田舎の男だった。

The countryman stopped to ask what was o'clock; this led to further chat.

その男が立ち止まって時間を聞いたのがきっかけとなり、おしゃべりをした。

Hans told him all his luck, how he had so many good bargains, and how all the world went wonderful and smiling with him

ハンスは話ました。彼にはツキがあったこと、いい取引をしてきたこと、そして世界はバラ色で自分にとっては最高のものだ、ということを、話したのです。

The countryman then began to speak to Hans, and told him about the festival in which the countryman has to take the goose.

そして　田舎の男は　自分はガチョウをお祭りに連れていかなくてはならないと
ハンスに言いました。

The countryman said to Hans, “do you feel how heavy this goose is, and it is only eight weeks old.”

田舎の男はハンスに向かってこう言いました。
「丸々と太っているのがわかるだろう、それでな、なんと生まれてからまだ8週間だぜ」

【9】
The countryman added, “whoever roasts and eats it will find this goose so delicious.”
田舎の男は続けた 「焼いて食べたなら誰だってこのガチョウがうまいってわかるよ」

【10】
“I think so” said Hans, as he weighed it in his hand
「ああ、そうだろうな」 ハンスは手に持ったやつを品定めをし乍ら言った

【11】
Hans said again, “however, if you talk about taste, my pig may be better.”
さらにハンスは 「だけど、味ってことになれば、私の豚がもっと良いだろう」

【12】
Meantime the countryman began to look down, and shook his head.

田舎の男は豚を見定め終わると、首を横に振りました、

【13】
“Listen to me.” said the countryman, “you seem a good man.”

「　いいかい、君はどうやら　いい人間のようだ。」　と田舎の男は言いました。

【14】
“So, I want to help your life. Your pig may get you into trouble.”

だから　私は君の人生を助けたいんだ。　君の豚は　困ったことになるよ。」

【15】
“In the village I just came from, a man has had a pig stolen out of his sty. I was dreadfully afraid that you had got his pig.”

「ちょうど、私の村での話しさ、豚小屋から豚が盗まれてね、こんなこと言っては本当に申し訳ないんだが、君の豚がまさにその豚なのさ。」

うわー、これは嘘か誠か・・・、根拠ないお話・・人を不安にさせて騙しているか、本当に親切で言っているのか・・・さてさて・・・

“If you have, and they catch you, it will be a bad job for you.”

持っていれば捕まることになる、危ない状況だってことだ。

【17】
“The least they will do will be to throw you into the pond. Can you swim?”

まあ、池に放り込まれるぐらいは覚悟しておきな。泳げるかい。
