(私はいまだにCongratulationsが自信なくて最近ようやく間違えないようになりました^^;)
mortgageを発音より先にスペル見ちゃったので、発音する時についtを入れそうになる、あるいはモーテージになってしまいます^^;視覚に頼りすぎ^^;
私も実はスターウォーズよく知りません。ちょっと気になったので調べてみました。
(いっつものあの後の部分がテキストには載ってないし、みんな早口(ナチュラルスピード?)で話すので聞き取るのに必死だったりします^^)
あの人達に不可能はないのではないのでしょうかww

私は最初耳で聞いたので、自信たっぷりに「First thing's first.」って書いてたよ。
その方が意味がちゃんと通じるもん。

友達をたくさん作ろうと思ってSNSを始めたのにそれにハマって友だちと会う機会が減る。

でも、どの辞書にも、この成句の意味として「本末転倒」が出てくるんですよね。
リーダーズだと、「事の順序を誤る、本末を転倒する、原因と結果を取り違える」
と、いろいろ羅列してあるんだけど、そもそも、全部ニュアンスが違う!と思ったのでした。。。
日本語って、むずいわ

結論としては
Don't put the cart before the horse.は
"「優先順位を間違えるな」のほうが正確で「本末転倒」の意味となる."です.
Don't put the cart before the horse.の定義として
1.Reverse the accepted or logical order of things.
2.To put things in the wrong order or with the wrong priorities; to put something inconsequential as more important than something more essential.
3. Things need to be done in the right order.
などありました.
和文的にはどれも順序が違うですが,
2.のor with the wrong prioritiesを取って考えると,
「優先順位を間違える」と本末転倒の意味があります.
logical orderと1.の定義に書かれてますが,
logicalの定義(longman)を見ると,
1 seeming reasonable and sensible
「妥当・道理にかなったような」と書かれてました.
つまり因果関係が成り立つ順序となり1.も本末転倒の意味になるかと思います.
そしてorderの定義(longman)
arrangement [uncountable and countable]
the way that things or events are arranged in relation to each other, for example showing whether something is first, second, third etc [= sequence]
in relation to each other:
「お互いの関係性で」とあるので順序は順序なのですが,
ある規則通りに並べられた順序ということになるかと思います.
物事や出来事をある規則の中で配列するので,
コトの順序となり,本末転倒の定義にあってると思います.
僕の想像なんですが,日本語の順序と英語のorderが違って
日本語の順序の定義は「物事を行う手段」もあるので,
基準,因果関係が無くても良くなります.
でも英語のorderは関連性(一連の流れ:グループ)が必要となり,
関連性のないものはorderと言えないからだと思います.

遠山先生の例では、ダイアローグもApply it!も、単に物事を行う順序を間違える例になっていて、本末転倒とは合わないと思いました。

今日、まとめ放送聴きました。 ディクテしてみたのですが、火曜日にでてきた entail がand tall に聞こえてしまった。放送中、何回も this work and tall って。。。。
そもそも、entailって単語初めて知りました。

少し検索してみましたが、確かにeletirc bill だと、請求書を意味したり、電気代そのものを差したりするようですね。

テキストを買い始めて3~4ヶ月。
皆さんは巻末のクロスワードをやったことありますか?
基本的にはクロスワード大好きで日本語の場合比較的得意だと思っていますが、
このテキストのクロスワードは難しい!まあ英語のは難しいことも多いのですが、全部のヒントを見て辞書無しでわかるのが1~3個程度^^;
後は必死に調べ倒しました。
5~7月号を終えましたが正直、楽しくなかった^^; 必死すぎてww
単語自体知らないこともあるし、文化的に知識として不足していることも多くて・・・

でも・・・・難しすぎます。

〔雑談〕
最近、車の中で録音してるのを聞いています。(結構送迎が増えたので、運転中とか待ってる間とか。)
やっぱりこの番組はラジオ番組だけあって、耳だけても結構学べるなぁと改めて思い始めました。
元はと言えば、ネットのストリーミングで時々聞いていて、それだけだとよくわからないところもあり、せっかくだからもっとちゃんと勉強したいと思い4月からテキストを買って本腰入れて聞き始めました。
しかしいざテキスト買うと、やっぱり視覚に頼ってしまいがちで^^;
会話力を伸ばしたいと思ってラジオ講座を聴き始めたのに。
という、言ったり来たりがありました。
車内だと運転中はプレーヤーを止めたりすることもできず、何回も繰り返し聞いたりします。
またラジオ英会話は(英会話タイムトライアルもそうだけど)ちゃんとポーズの時間があり口に出して言うことができます。
部屋でやっていると他にもやりたいことややらなきゃならないこともあり、集中できないこともあるけど、車内だと運転以外にはそれしかできず、やむなく?^^; 集中できます。
また逆にわからないところがはっきり浮かび上がることもあります。
ここが聞き取れないとか、ここは冠詞はどうだ?とか。
ひとそれぞれに向いたやり方、続けられるやり方があると思います。
でもなんとなく一緒にやってる人がいると思うと続けられます^^

私は昔からずっと紙のテキストを買っていますが、見るのは書き取ったダイアログに間違いがないかチェックするときと、Listen to it! の解答をチェックするとき。
あんまり使ってないかも。
でも、第4週だけは、テキストがないと全然身にならないんです。
Special week は、テキストをフルに使っています。
そうしないと、ただ聞き流すだけになっちゃう。
そのために買っているようなものかな。
