yet には接続詞の用法があるがかなり複雑。文法書によっては「接続副詞」に分類されることがある。 ＜正確な説明＞ ;（セミコロン）、,（カンマ）、そして .（ピリオド）の直後に yet を置いて「しかし」という意味を表せる。yetの後ろに「,」があっては駄目。この意味で使う場合 yet は文中や、文末に置けない。 【例文】 ○She is a beautiful girl; yet she has no friends. （彼女は美しい少女である、しかし友達がいない） ×She is a beautiful girl; yet, she has no friends. ×She is a beautiful girl; she has, yet, no friends. ×She is a beautiful girl; she has no friends, yet. ○She is a beautiful girl, yet she has no friends. ×She is a beautiful girl, yet, she has no friends. ×She is a beautiful girl, she has, yet, no friends. ×She is a beautiful girl, she has no friends, yet. ○She is a beautiful girl. Yet she has no friends. ×She is a beautiful girl. Yet, she has no friends. ×She is a beautiful girl. She has, yet, no friends. ×She is a beautiful girl. She has no friends, yet. although や though と相関的に使える。これは but では使えない用法である。（意味は同じである） ×Though she is a beautiful girl, but she has no friends. ○Though she is a beautiful girl, yet she has no friends. ※ but yet と続けて使うことがある。 She made great effort, but yet she failed.（彼女は多大な努力をしたが、しかし失敗した） ※ and yet （しかもなお）という表現もある。 Mr.Yamamoto is rich, and yet modest.（山本さんは金持ちで、しかもなお謙虚である） |
